3 Ways Gaming Has Improved My Mental Health
Highlights from my Year-Long Journey
Just over a year ago, I began an experiment using myself as a test subject. I took a deep dive into the world of gaming. I chose to immerse myself in a gaming ecosystem — MLB 9 Innings. I chronicled the beginning of my journey here.
I’ve had ups and downs and fun. But most importantly I focused on my actions and attitudes to learn more about myself.
Here are three ways gaming has improved my mental health:
Mental Health Benefit #1 — Camaraderie
I’ve made new friends with similar interests. With each gaming ecosystem it’s different. With MLB 9 Innings, players are centered around Reddit and Discord groups.
I’ve interacted with the community on Reddit and X, which are a bit of a free-for-all. But more specifically, I joined a Discord group. Like many of the top-level players in MLB 9 Innings, I’ve banded together with other top players to share strategies and cooperate.
This has helped me do better in the game, but also helped me make more friends. Having someone positive to chat with, even online, has been a plus for my mental health.
