As a candidate, Javier Milei won over 55% of the vote, winning the November 19 election over Sergio Massa. This is the most any candidate has earned since Argentina became a democracy in 1983. Milei drew attention by bringing a chainsaw to campaign events, a symbol of his plans to take on the bureaucracy and the nation’s decades long inflation situation.

He was inaugurated as Argentina’s President on December 10, 2023. Milei is also Argentina’s first Libertarian President.

Since taking office, he has acted boldly as he has embarked on his ambitions platform to reshape Argentina’s economy and government. His commitment to reducing the size of the state and empowering individuals through market-driven reforms is evident in the significant strides he has already made since taking office.

Streamlining Government and Deregulation

One of Milei’s first acts in office was to fulfill his promise of shrinking the state. By slashing the number of ministries from 18 to 9 and cutting thousands of public sector jobs, he has taken critical steps toward creating a leaner, more efficient government. This downsizing is not just a matter of cutting costs but a strategic move to reduce bureaucratic bloat and foster a more dynamic, responsive administration. Source
