Shelby Stardust is an artist from the American West Coast. In this interview, we dive in for a closer look and profile her journey.

With a traditional “successful” life path planned out her, Shelby instead proved to be a rebel at heart, and instead charted her own course. Already an established painter, Shelby then dived into the Web3 world, where she interacts with her own community of followers as well as art collectors.

Who is Shelby Stardust?

  1. Can you tell us a little about yourself and how and when you started as an artist?

I’ve been making art for as long as I can remember. However, my professional journey as an artist is fairly new. After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Psychology from Pitzer College, I was about to apply to law school to follow in my Criminal Defense Attorney parents’ footsteps. Something didn’t feel quite right and I decided to pursue art for a year before going to law school, not having truly any idea where it would go.

I used my existing social media platform to start gaining commission work from collectors and businesses and then transitioned to the NFT space a year ago. That transition was rocky but I am eternally grateful for sticking it out.

In total, I have been a full time artist for just 3 years, and fully intend to spend the rest of my life as one.

2. What inspires you to create?

As an artist, I am constantly fueled by the fantastical worlds and characters that have captured my imagination since childhood. These include the immersive worlds of video games like Mario, Zelda and World of Warcraft, and the epic storytelling of novels like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, to stunning and thought-provoking movies like Star Wars and Pan’s
