Let’s talk about Virginia in the 2024 Presidential election.

Former President Trump and Republicans are campaigning in Virginia, a state which was not expected to be a battleground state. However, recent polling indicates this state to be close, with polls anywhere between even to a 7% Harris advantage.

Can Trump and Republican senate hopeful Hung Cao win in Virginia? And if so, how would they?

2016 — Clinton won by 5.2% (212,030 votes)

2020 — Biden won by 10.1% (451,138 votes)

Biden more than doubled Clinton’s win, indicating that Virginia is moving to the left.

2021 Gubernatorial Race

However, in 2021, Glenn Youngkin pulled of a surprise upset in the Governor race, winning over his Democrat opponent, former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe.

Early voting and mail-in requests indicate that counties that heavily favored Trump in 2020 are showing greater increases in voter participation in 2024 when compared to counties that favored Biden in…
