Web 3 Gaming Sector Update: January 21, 2023
Markets were smiling last week, and risk appetite returned for crypto investors in the short-term. This blog isn’t about crypto tokens or price action, but “price go up” certainly helps draw interest into any space that has the term “Web3” “blockchain” “NFTs” or “crypto.”
If this is your first time reading my blogs, thank you for being here! I wanted to let you know that this is a weekly series where I update you on key news from the Web 3 gaming sector and look at where the gamers actually are.
This is a reminder for anyone investing in tokens that this space is entirely experimental and speculative.
If you are into Web3 or gaming, you can follow and subscribe for alerts to my blogs here.
In the News
Here were three of the top news stories in the Web3 gaming space last week:
Dashing to Dookey: Yuga Labs’ new NFT game was trashed by gaming media while being the latest money-maker in the largest NFT empire. Yuga Labs describes the game Dookey Dash as a “skill-based mint.” A speculative frenzy resulted in $12.8 in transactions, Ars Technica reported. Or as PC Gamer described it, this new game is literally about chasing sh*t.
You can now earn Bitcoin by playing chess: I just learned about this from Isaiah Jackson at the Bitcoin Day conference in Naples, Florida, and Jason Nelson reports on this Bitcoin play-to-earn gameplay for Decrypt.
Africa Web3 games publisher Carry1st raises $27 Million: Andreessen Horowitz and Bitkraft Ventures were some of the big names in the funding round, as Sam Bourgi from Coin Telegraph reports here.
